The Texas Longhorns are ready to bounce back after a critical bye week following their intense loss to Oklahoma. With a chance to regroup and get healthy, the team is now focused on their upcoming clash against the Houston Cougars this Saturday. But star wideout Xavier Worthy had more to say about their future.
During the team's media availability on Monday, Worthy expressed the team's determination to put the loss behind them. However, he also shared his confidence that the Longhorns would face their arch-rivals again in Arlington for the Big 12 Championship Game.
“We put that loss in the back of our heads," Worthy said. "We'll take things week by week, and we’ll see them again.”
Surprisingly, the Longhorns received unexpected help during their off week from none other than their upcoming opponent, Houston. Houston's miraculous hail mary touchdown pass as time expired secured them a victory over the West Virginia Mountaineers, who were undefeated in conference play and ahead of the Longhorns in the Big 12 race.
This turn of events now puts Texas on equal footing with West Virginia, as the Mountaineers still have a matchup against the Oklahoma Sooners on their schedule. Meanwhile, Texas enjoys a favorable position with remaining games against unranked opponents.
In other words, as long as the Longhorns take care of business, they will earn their shot at redemption against the Sooners in Arlington, just as Worthy confidently stated. And if they manage to triumph over Oklahoma at AT&T Stadium, their College Football Playoff hopes will remain alive and well.
