Xavier Worthy has been described as an "unbelievable" player to have on the team. He's been bonding with his new team during the off-season and is a month from his potential debut.
After setting a new record at the 2024 NFL Combine in the 40-yard dash, Worthy has been impressing not only Longhorn and Chiefs fans, but also his professional teammates. Kansas City Chiefs' tight end Travis Kelce expressed his excitement about having Worthy on the team this year.
Kelce praised (GM Brett) Veach for finding not just talented players, but also good people. "It's unbelievable that Veach finds ways to bring in not only guys that have talent, that have unbelievable skill sets, but are good people," Kelce told reporters. He added that getting to know Worthy over the off-season has been a great experience, appreciating his down-to-Earth, humble nature, and his passion for the game.
Worthy made a grand exit from the NFL Draft as the No. 28 overall pick. Scoring first in athleticism and fifth in production among wide receivers during the Combine, he ended with a prospect score of 6.29 and a total score of 88, ranking third overall. Analysts project Worthy to be an eventual regular starter, pointing out his clear playmaker abilities and key prospect status during his three seasons at Texas.
Worthy's final year as a Longhorn showcased his progress, as he led the team with 75 receptions, over 1,000 receiving yards, and five touchdowns. His career ended with a total of 39 starts and 26 touchdown receptions, making him the third-most in Texas football history.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian has continuously praised Worthy's ability to buy into the team culture. His positivity in the locker room and his fit among the Chiefs have been lauded. There's no doubt that he will make an immediate impact when given the opportunity.
